Sounds like good advice JalfreziT - can you point me to a recipe for paneer that works for you? Meanwhile, I've made a sweet potato and chickpea version of cartz's Hari Mirchi Bhuna Gosht that's excellent!

Please would you discuss the general question of meat substitutes in a more appropriate section of the forum (such as Chat About Vegetarian Curries) starting a new thread if one doesn't already exist. Extended discussions on meat substitutes (including paneer) do not belong in this thread and will not be easily subsequently found by other members.

Thank you.

Yes, excellent recipe cartz and the end result was very tasty.

I used an oil free batch of CA's Pressure Cooker Curry Base and a fresh batch of CA's Spice Mix 1 and although I couldn't see where you added the 1 tsp of coriander powder, I added it with the garam masala. I doubt that it matters too much!

I didn't have any kasmiri or ordinary chilli powder so used 1 tsp each of hot chilli powder and paprika. I also used three home grown green chillies, freshly harvested from a home-grown chilli plant.

I assumed that the recipe was to serve two people so instead of pre-cooked meat I scrubbed a quarter of a sweet potato, diced it into 1cm cubes and microwaved it in a covered container for a couple of minutes, and also added a can of chickpeas, rinsed and drained. I served it on a bed of wholemeal rice with mango pickle and aubergine pickle on the side.

If anything, it was quite warm, at least for my wife, but suited me very well with a good depth of flavour and consistency.

I'll be trying it again with paneer later in the week, having found some in my local supermarket.

@simonides Regarding a paneer recipe, just choose any on here, or google one. I have used different sources but they all give basically the same result.
They've been cooking on Blue Peter, now they're sampling the dishes,
I don't normally like tomatoes John but this is delicious.

Of course : I just had to experiment with the right photo width in Photoshop Express - 800 pixels wide and <800MB file size seems to work, per Admin's advice in How to Re-size an Image:thumbup:

Did I say Photoshop Express? That should have been Photoshop Elements!

I also made a Paneer version, using a 200g packet of paneer from Tesco, diced, browned on the sides as suggested by steveparadox and edison3000. It has more protein than chickpeas and beans!

Lovely!

Photo from when I cooked this last week. Mrs GB gave this a 9, as did I. No deviation from the recipe, used a fresh portion of my own base and mix powder.

Cook off was a breeze, and if anyone is looking for a hot, multi-layered curry, this will deliver.
